Mini Santa Hat

This is the pattern for the mini Santa hat I made for the Christmas Kangaroos. It, of course, can be used for any of your amigurumi. If you would like the hat to have a fold-up rim, just add a few even rows to the end of the pattern.

Note on yarn and hook size
I crochet with a light worsted (DK) weight yarn. You can use a slightly heavier or lighter yarn as long as you use the same type of yarn for the different colours. This will ensure your toy is in proportion. Use a hook size that will give you a nice firm stitch. The 3.00mm is my favourite hook.

Crochet Hook – 3.00mm or preferred size
Tapestry needle

***This pattern was written using US crochet terminology***
Rnd – A round of a continuous spiral
sc – Single crochet
sc2tog – Single crochet two stitches together.
sl st – Slip stitch
st – Stitch. This term covers ch, sc, hdc, sl st and other stitches used in crochet.

Make a ring – The starting point for crocheting in a spiral. Use which ever method you prefer.
* * - Repeat the instructions between the asterisks as directed.
( ) – The number of stitches that should be in a completed round are placed in brackets at the end of that round’s instructions.

Rnd 2: *sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st*  twice (8)

Rnd 4: *sc in next 4 st, 2 sc in next st*  twice (12)
Rnd 5: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 5 st*  twice (14)
Rnd 6: *sc in next 6 st, 2 sc in next st*  twice (16)
Rnd 7: *2 sc in next st, sc in next 7 st*  twice (18)
Rnd 8: sc in each st around
Change to white.
Rnd 9-10: sc in each st around
Rnd 11: *sc in next 5 st, 2 sc in next st*  three times (21)

Make the Pom-pom (in White)
Wrap the yarn around two fingers 7 times. Cut yarn and slip yarn off fingers, making sure the loops don't unravel.

Cut another length of yarn. You might need someone to help you here. Tie the length of yarn around the middle of the loops. Make sure to tie it tightly. Don't cut the ends of the length of yarn, instead leave them long so that you can use them to join the pom-pom to the hat.

Cut the loops.

Trim and shape the pom-pom. Fluff it up by rubbing it between your fingers. Attach to the top of the hat. You may want to trim it a little more once it's attached.

And now you have a simple Santa hat to give to on of your toys.

Have a wonderful holiday season, guys!
